Spannend: Münzen und Martin Luther

Mit Spannung bereiten sich Numismatiker auf die 500-Jahr-Feier der Reformation vor. Am 31.Oktober 1517 nagelte Martin Luther seine 95 Thesen an die Tür der Schlosskirche in Wittenberg. Dies war ein Meilenstein in der Weltgeschichte. Ein schlichter Protest gegen den Ablasshandel führte zu einem kompletten Umbruch in der Machtstruktur und zentralen Lehre der Christlichen Kirche Roms. Infolge dieses Ereignisses wurden tausende von Münzen und Medaillen geprägt.

Ein weltumspannendes Programm

Die Internationale Gesellschaft für Münzen und Medaillen der Reformation (IARCM-IGMMR) schmiedet für die 500-Jahr-Feier große Pläne. Sie ist eine Gemeinschaft talentierter und engagierter Fachleute, darunter:

• Münz- und Medaillensammler aller Art;

• Händler, die auf Münzen und Medaillen der Reformation spezialisiert sind;

• Museen mit Sammlungen von Münzen und Medaillen der Reformation;

• Reformationsgeschichtler und Numismatik-Forscher

Sie sind alle entschlossen, zur 500-Jahr-Feier der Reformation beizutragen - jeder auf seine Weise.

Gemeinnützig und global

IARCM-IGMMR ist eine gemeinnützige Gesellschaft, die weltweit das Interesse junger Numismatiker und erfahrener Sammler von Reformationsobjekten an Münzen und Medaillen fördern will.

Münzanstalten schmieden große Pläne

Im Vorfeld des Jubeljahres 2017 haben Prägeanstalten Wichtiges vor. Sie werden mit Blick auf die 500-Jahr-Feier der Reformation das Vermächtnis Martin Luthers, Philipp Melanchthons und der anderen Reformatoren mit der Herausgabe hunderte neuer Sammlermünzen und –medaillen ehren.

Das Interesse der Museen wecken

Die Kuratoren führender  Kollektionen von Reformations-Münzen bereiten schon jetzt Kataloge, Ausstellungen und Forschungsschriften über tausende solcher Geldstücke und Medaillen vor, die in den letzten 500 Jahren geprägt worden sind. Die IARCM-IGMMR hat sich zur Aufgabe gestellt, solche Ausstellungen zu fördern und diese Exponate und Veröffentlichungen in deutscher und englischer Sprache einer größtmöglichen Zahl von Sammlern und Lutherforschern zugänglich zu machen.

Spektakuläre Auktionen zu erwarten

Maßgebliche Münzhändler planen spektakuläre Sonderauktionen von Münzen und Medaillen der Reformation. Diese werden die Auktionen des letzten großen Reformationsjubiläums – Luthers 500. Geburtstag 1983 – weit übertreffen.

Nachholbedarf bei der Forschung

Leider wurden in den letzten 30 Jahren nur wenige bedeutende Forschungsergebnisse zum Thema Reformations-Numismatik veröffentlicht.  Deshalb fördert die IARCM-IGMMR Forschungsprojekte dieser Art höchsten Niveaus und unterstützt energisch den Vertrieb einschlägiger Publikationen und elektronischer Ressourcen. IARCM-IGMMR beabsichtigt, die Reformations-Numismatik auf Jahre hinaus zu stützen und voranzutreiben.

A NEW NUMISMATIC SOCIETY REDISCOVERING THE ENDURING LEGACY OF REFORMATION COINS AND MEDALS

THE EXCITEMENT HAS ALREADY BEGUN

Anticipation is already building in the numismatic community in preparation for the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.  On October 31st, 1517, Martin Luther posted his “Ninety-Five Theses” on the doors of the Castle Church in Wittenberg.  The rest is history.  What began as a simple protest against the abuses of indulgences became a complete re-working of the authority and central teachings of the Christian Church of Rome — a movement preserved in thousands of coins and medals.

IMPORTANT PLANS ARE ALREADY UNDERWAY

The International Association of Reformation Coins and Medals (IARCM-IGMMR) is now making plans worldwide to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation as it brings together a talented and dedicated group of:

       • coin and medal collectors of all kinds;

       • dealers specializing in Reformation coins and medals;

       • museums with Reformation coin collections; and

       • Reformation historians and numismatic researchers

all committed in one way or another to come together in celebrating the 500th anniversary of an event that forever changed the Christian Church and Western Civilization.  And the IARCM-IGMMR wants you to be part of the celebration!

COMING TOGETHER TO INCREASE INTEREST

The IARCM-IGMMR is a mutual benefit non-profit organization dedicated to furthering interest in Reformation coins and medals around the world, among young numismatists as well as seasoned Reformation collectors and dealers.

EXCITEMENT Among Collectors AND MINTS

Interest in Reformation coins and medals is now building in these few years before 2017.  With mints already planning to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, there will be literally hundreds of additional collectible coins and medals marking the enduring legacy of the Reformation, Martin Luther, Philipp Melanchthon and the other Protestant Reformers.

PROMOTING INTEREST  Among MUSEUMS

Curators of major Reformation coin and medal collections are even now planning exhibitions, catalogues and research publications focusing on the thousands of Reformation coins and medals produced in the last 500 years.  The IARCM-IGMMR is committed to encouraging exhibitions and exhibition materials that (in both German and English) make Reformation numismatics available to the greatest number of collectors, dealers and students of Luther and the Reformation.

PROMOTING INTEREST Among COIN DEALERS

Recognized coin dealers are also gearing up for special auctions of Reformation coins and medals — auctions that will certainly eclipse those witnessed during the last major anniversary of the Reformation in 1983 (the 500th anniversary of the birth of Martin Luther).

FACILITATING RESEARCH AND RESOURCES

Sadly, there has been no significant comprehensive research published on Reformation numismatics in over thirty years.  The IARCM-IGMMR is committed to promoting the highest quality research and the publication of printed and electronic resources that further the discipline of Reformation numismatics worldwide for years to come.
