DNH-4288 Large bronze medal by MARTIN GÖTZE. Commemorates the 400th anniversary of the Reformation (1517) and Luther at the Diet of Worms (1521). Obverse: Martin Luther portrait (right) in Talar. EVANGELISCHES KONSISTORIUM DER MARK BRANDENBURG / 1517 / 1521. Reverse: Holy Spirit as dove with nimbus and rays over (Luther’s) praying hands encircled by serpent preparing to strike. Smoke / flame from serpent’s mouth. GOTT / HELFE // MIR. Whiting 868; Brozatus 1540 (iron).
This piece presents a dark, rich brown patina with green highlights. Some rubbing on highest points. Very good condition.
