1917 Large Eight-sided Iron Medal – ERFURT / BERLIN

DNH-0701 This massive iron medal was designed by Eugenie Lange and produced by Guss Gießerei Gladenbeck und Sohn in Berlin. Obverse: Martin Luther portrait (right) in monk’s robe and doctor’s cap. Obverse: Landscape of the Augustinian Cloister in Erfurt with date 1505. Also extant in smaller size (47mm). Whiting 848; Schnell 362; Schreiber / Schumacher / Harmelink 677/678; Opitz 3789 (1983 version).
This piece shows a beautiful aged and consistent patina with some purple and gold highlights. Minimal oxidation. Excellent condition.
